Before we discuss what you may be getting wrong, I need to emphasise that there's no 𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘶𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘵 in growing an email database.

Your email list growth will always depend on the type of business you run, the content you share, and the resources you have available.

Let's chat about this a little more. Are you making these five email list-building mistakes that are hampering your email database growth efforts?

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 (𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹) 𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀?

Buying email lists may seem like an easy way to quickly grow your database, but it's a violation of many email marketing regulations and can harm your email sender reputation.

Though no longer as common as it used to be, I still implore you to NEVER BUY EMAIL LISTS!

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀?

Using misleading tactics and tricks to get people to sign up for your email list creates instant mistrust.

Hiding pre-checked boxes, creating false competitions, or even promising incentives that don't work (think expired codes, etc.) is unethical and can lead to high unsubscribe rates, spam reports, and low email engagement.

Always keep it ethical and deliver on what you promise.

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?

Asking for too much information in the sign-up process is a turn-off for potential subscribers.

Keep your opt-in form simple, only ask for the necessary information, and make it easy to fill in, especially on a mobile phone.

You can always send an email to welcome a new subscriber and ask for more information.

𝗗𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁) 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲?

People are always more likely to sign up for your email list if they see the value in it.

Clearly communicate the benefits of signing up and what subscribers can expect to receive from your emails. Remember, all people care about is what is in it for them.

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗺 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻-𝘂𝗽𝘀?

Always focus on list quality over quantity. Use a double opt-in process where subscribers need to confirm their email addresses before being added to your list. This prevents fake or invalid email addresses from being added which harms the deliverability of future emails.
